Elects 2008-9 Officers

Jung-Il Jin
was elected President of IUPAC on 12 August 2007 by the IUPAC Council
at its meeting in Torino, Italy. Prof. Jin is a Professor of Chemistry
at the Korea University, College of Sciences, Seoul, Korea. Prof. Jin
has maintained a distinguished and active research career and is recognized
as one of Korea's leading polymer chemists. He joined Korea University
in 1974 where he has published ~350 original research papers, served
as Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of the Graduate School, and Acting
Vice President. Prof. Jin has been active in IUPAC and was most recently
President of the Polymer Division (2006-7).
Nicole Moreau
was elected Vice President at the same meeting. She is an emeritus professor
at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris (ENSCP),
where she was responsible for teaching at the interface Chemistry-Life
Sciences and the leader of the Laboratory of Biochemistry. She is a
former Directeur de Recherche at the Centre National de la Recherche
Scientifique (CNRS).
The Council also elected John
Corish as Treasurer at its meeting in Torino. He holds the Chair
of Physical Chemistry at Trinity College, University of Dublin, is a
Fellow of Trinity College, and is currently Head of its School of Chemistry.
Meanwhile David Black,
Professor of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales, Australia,
was elected to a second four-year term as Secretary General. Bryan
Henry, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at Guelph University,
Canada will be Past President for 2008-2009.
