* IUPAC Elections for 2008-2009 Term
Every two years, IUPAC elects new officers and committee members. About 120 individuals are to be elected or reelected either as Titular Members, Associate Members, or National Representatives. Information concerning the voting process and the role of each kind of member is contained in the Union bylaws.

* Nanostructured Advanced Materials
In the study of material properties, the nanoscale is truly the
interface between the two fundamental natural sciences, where size,
geometry, and chemical species all play a significant role in
determining the electronic and mechanical properties of nanostructured
materials, and their subsequent biological and chemical activity. All
these aspects are covered in the selection of papers presented in this
issue of PAC, written by both established and upcoming chemists,
physicists, materials scientists, and technologists. The papers were
selected from the invited presentations at the 3rd IUPAC Workshop on
Advanced Materials (WAM III), held on 5-8 September 2005 at the
University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.

* Recent Trends in Ionic Polymerization
This issue of Macromolecular Symposia is focusing on papers presented at
the IUPAC Symposium on Ionic Polymerization, held in Goa, India, in
October 2005. All the elegance of the technique of ionic polymerizations
in its the ability to synthesize polymers with well-defined
architectures without any side reactions such as termination and
transfer, was well represented at the symposium and transpires in this
publication.

* IUPAC Prize for Young Chemists - 2007 Solicitation
The IUPAC Prize for Young Chemists has been established to encourage
outstanding young research scientists at the beginning of their careers.
The prize will be given for the most outstanding Ph.D. thesis in the
general area of the chemical sciences, as described in a 1000-word essay.
Deadline: 1 February 2007 - for entrants that receive their Ph.D. (or
equivalent) degree during the calendar year 2006.
<http://www.iupac.org/news/prize.html>

* CNC-IUPAC Travel Awards
The Canadian National Committee for IUPAC has been running since 1982 a
program of travel awards to enable young Canadian scientists to present
their research at IUPAC-sponsored conferences outside continental North
America. Applications are now called for the 2007 program - deadline: 16
October 2006. See website for criteria and procedures:
<http://www.cnc-iupac.org/awards_e.html>
or in French: <http://www.cnc-iupac.org/awards_f.html>

* Doing Research at CHF
The Chemical Heritage Foundation hosts scholars from all parts of the
world through its Fellowship Program and Travel Grant Program. Through
the Beckman Center for the History of Chemistry, CHF offers fellowships
in residence for both the academic year and the summer.
See CHF website for more info and deadline:
