COMMISSION ON HIGH TEMPERATURE MATERIALS AND SOLID
STATE CHEMISTRY (II.3)
Number: 230/28/95
Title: Terminology of Silicon Nitride Based Ceramics and Related
Materials
Coordinator(s): R.
Metselaar
Remarks: Close communication with European Standards Group
CEN/TC-184 which is defining process-related acronyms for these materials
Completion Date: 1999
Objective:
This project will define terminology used to describe the chemical
compounds, chemical composition, and chemical structure of the silicon
nitride ceramic family of materials. The project complements, and
is in communication with, a European Standards Group activity that
is defining process-related acronyms for these materials. The market
for silicon-nitride materials is growing at 10-15% a year, a growth
rate expected to continue for the next two decades.
Progress:
Project completed
Because of extensive background work while the Commission sought to
define the best project in this area the project is well along and
should lead to a reviewable publication during the next years. The
IUPAC effort is restricted to terminology that defines the chemical
compounds, composition, and structure of these materials.
