COMMISSION ON ISOTOPE SPECIFIC MEASUREMENTS AS TRACEABLE
REFERENCES (II.4)
Number: 240/13/98
Title: Trace Elements in Polyethylene
Series: International Measurement Evaluation Programme (IMEP-13)
Coordinator(s): L. Van Nevel and P.
Taylor
Completion Date: 2000 - Project Completed
Objective:
In this program, the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements
(IRMM), which coordinates IMEP, is focusing on the determination of
trace elements (Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb, As, Cl, Br, S) in polyethylene. The
material itself consists of a polyethylene matrix doped with the following
metals: Cd, Cr, Hg, and Pb. The concentrations are between 1 and 100
mg.kg-1. The material,
in the form of small pellets (diameter approx. 5mm), will be dispatched
in sealed glass amber bottles containing 50g sample.

IMEP Round-13 is scheduled to run through the year 2000. A
participants technical report was prepared by IRMM (EUR 19562 EN).
The final report also includes information from IMEP-10 (IUPAC Project
