Lectures presented at the 10th International Symposium on Solubility
Phenomena, Varna, Bulgaria, 2226 July 2002
Preface
Beginning in 1984, International Symposia on Solubility Phenomena (ISSP)
have been organized by IUPAC's Commission V.8 (Solubility Data). In
1999, it was decided to broaden the subject matter under discussion
by simultaneously holding a workshop, "Solubility
Phenomena-Application for Environmental Improvement". That this
approach resulted in a healthy interchange of perspectives between individuals
concerned with theoretical and applied aspects of solubility is shown
by the selection of plenary and invited lectures from both the symposium
and the workshop, which are published here.
In 2002, Commission V.8 was succeeded by a new Subcommittee
on Solubility and Equilibrium Data. Because the subcommittee has
broader interests and terms of reference than the Commission, it is
eager to consider proposals for new initiatives, especially those related
to equilibrium data, which might be incorporated into future ISSP. Communication
on this topic may be directed to Heinz
Gamsjaeger, the Subcommittee Chairman, .
